Welcome!
The 8th annual Pend Oreille Valley Lavender Festival takes place on July 9th and 10th, 2011 in Newport, WA. This is a juried show of high quality art, craft and horticulture products in a Tuscan Garden setting. The event features wine tasting with Washington vintners, a micro-brewery garden, culinary delights, live music by local musicians, flowers, children's art activities and locally grown and crafted lavender products in a beautiful, relaxed atmosphere.
We invite you to come and experience the lavender in peak bloom, shop the more than 60 booths of local artisans and growers, and enjoy the open-air market.
Experience the Art
Our 2011 Poster artist is Carol Wenz, a local and talented artist who paints on silk. Her original framed silk painting will be on exhibit and available to own through a raffle. Also available in the Festival Store are 20 numbered and signed 24x36 posters, printed on water-color paper, of the original art work. Carol will also have a booth so you can see her other exciting and beautiful art work.
Of her chosen medium, Carol says, "I love the art of painting on silk fabric... A silk painting seems to change it's appearance depending on the amount of light. I derive inspiration for my art from the beauty of the Pend Oreille River country."
Children's Art Show
There are also some exciting events for young and aspiring artists this year including the 2011 Children's Art Show and Poster Contest.
Just announced! The winner of this year's Youth Art Poster Contest, sponsored by River Arts Alliance, is Ana, age 8yrs, from Spokane, WA. Receiving ribbbons for their 2nd & 3rd place entries are Martina Scott, 11yrs, home schooled from Ione, and Connor Borches, 11yrs, Sadie Halstead Middle School, from Newport.
Official posters with Ana's painting will be available for sale at the Lavender Festival, so be sure to stop by the Children's Art Show.
A Family Affair
